‘Slick’ 200-Unit Apartment Building Planned for Capri Motel Site

Plus, other Tulane Avenue motel conversions in the works

After recently filing a demolition application, The Advocate reports that owner Kevin Frischhertz started razing the Capri Hotel last week and, as previously reported, an apartment building will go up in its place. The "slick" building will house 200 market-rate units catering to employees of the nearby hospital.

The Advocate piece also reports that other motel renovations are afoot on Tulane Avenue: New York native Ben Kulick recently bought the former Sweets Inn Motel at 3610 Tulane Ave. and plans to turn it into a "funky" boutique hotel called The Benjamin. New Orleans lawyer and developer Zach Kupperman is renovating the Rose Inn Motel at 3522 Tulane Ave. The Le Petit motel at 2836 Tulane Ave. was sold in April for $725,000 to San Francisco restaurateur Nicholas Fasanella and New York architect-designer Devin Vermeulen.

Last week, owners of the old Pepsi-Cola plant on the street petitioned to demolish that property, and recently the same owners scooped up the old Dixie Brewing warehouse.
