Tulane Avenue improvements coming in August, minus trees

Improvements include left turn lanes, bike lanes and better handicap and pedestrian access

The first phase of Tulane Avenue improvements that have been in the works since 2011 is slated to be done by the end of August, but Mid-City Messenger reports the finished project will be without some of the aspects originally included in the plan.

The "lush landscaping, with trees and shrubbery lining the side streets and neutral ground" outlined in the Regional Planning Commission’s 2011 beautification project were not included in this round of construction. Landscaping will be considered for the second phase.

Also on hold? Trashcans, bike racks, and LED lighting for pedestrian safety.

However, the first phase does include "elimination of the inside lanes in each direction to provide left turn lanes, bike lanes and better handicap and pedestrian access."

Left turn lanes! On Tulane Avenue! That’s one improvement.
