New Orleans is the second-most roach-infested city, too

Gross: According to the 2013 American Housing Survey, which was released in June and reported on by the Seattle Times, New Orleans ranks No. 1 in rat and general pest infestations in the country.

The study is conducted once every two years; a new survey, with data collected in 2015, is scheduled to be released in October.

In New Orleans, 46.1 percent of households reported a pest sighting—that includes rats, mice, roaches, and "unknown" critters. Broken down into those categories, New Orleans is the most rat infested city, and the second-to-most roach-infested city (Tampa, Florida takes the top honor there).
