Entergy’s New Orleans East solar power plant is operating

The plant is one of the few in the country to incorporate battery technology to store energy on cloudy days

NOLA.com reports Entergy’s New Orleans East solar power plant, featuring more than 4,000 solar panels, is up and running.

The plant, located near Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road, officially began operations in June and will be unveiled to the public soon. The plant has the capacity to product up to one megawatt of electricity, enough to power around 160 houses.

The New Orleans East plant is one of the few in the country that will incorporate battery technology to store energy on cloudy days.

The power plant is functioning as a pilot project of sorts to test the cost and reliability using solar energy to power homes and businesses. This is a win for solar energy in New Orleans, considering Louisiana recently pulled the plug on its solar energy tax credits.
