Construction is scheduled to be completed in spring 2017

Today the city is breaking ground on a $1.85 million Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard streetscape project, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.

Aiming to make the Central City thoroughfare more pedestrian and bike-friendly, the city’s fact sheet for the project outlines improvements on OCH from St. Andrew Street to Calliope Street. Those improvements include converting the roadway from two travel lanes and a parking lane into a parking lane, bicycle lane and travel lane in each direction; widening existing medians and installing new, wider ones; installing new ADA-compliant curb ramps; improving damaged sidewalks and landscaping; creating high-visibility crosswalks and a bike lane; plus more.

Funded by a HUD Disaster Community Development Block grant, construction is scheduled to be completed in spring 2017.
