Ernest N. Morial Convention Center seeks zoning change for Trade District hotel

Currently the property is zoned for 85-foot buildings

The biggest component of the proposed "Trade District," the stalled plan to develop land around the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, may move forward soon. NOLA.com reports the board governing the convention center is requesting the zoning change needed to develop the hotel at the center of the project.

The project needs a zoning change to allow a maximum building height of 321 feet; currently the property is zoned for 85-foot buildings. There was a community meeting Tuesday to obtain the required public feedback for the zoning change.

The board also is proposing a Convention Center Height Overlay District that "would allow consistent height regulations for the entire ... facility and surrounding properties."
