Wish for a more lush yard instead of concrete paving? Mid-City Messenger reports a new initiative from the Urban Conservancy might actually pay you to make your space greener.
The group’s Front Yard Initiative will reimburse homeowners up to $1,250 to remove paving from their front or side yards and replace it with greenery. Introduced at a Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association meeting this week, the group is launching the effort in order to combat "ugly" paved yards, and also to help with stormwater drainage.
Funded by grant money, the program will pay eligible homeowners $2.50 per square foot of paving removed, up to 500 square feet.
