Last week the What You Give Will Grow FitLot Fitness Park broke ground on the Lafitte Greenway. Last weekend, several volunteers helped assemble the fitness park’s equipment.

Now, this Friday, the Fitness Park on the Lafitte Greenway is expected to officially open.

Last Weekend, over 40 volunteers came out to help assemble equipment at the What You Give Will Grow Fitness Park, located on the Lafitte Greenway. Of those volunteers was New Orleans Saints football player, Thomas Morstead.

I spent the morning with amazing volunteers helping to build the What You Give Will Grow FitLot. I cannot say thank you...

“The whole build day was really exciting. There was really positive energy around,” Adam Mejerson, founder of FitLot, said.

“People we’ve been planning the project with actually came out and helped us build the park. It was awesome having Thomas Morstead there. I was thrilled to see that happened,” he added.

Morstead’s foundation, What You Give Will Grow, is the presenting sponsor of the FitLot fitness park on the greenway.

The fitness park is expected to open on this Friday, February 3. A kickoff for the new fitness park won’t be held until after Mardi Gras, but locals are welcome to use the park this weekend, according to Mejerson.

In the coming weeks, FitLot will host a neighborhood coach workshop in mid-March. There, trained neighborhood coaches can lean how to use the new Fitness Park effectively.

Additionally, a six week fitness program twice a week with Friend of Lafitte Greenway will also start mid-March.

Programmed fitness training will be held on a regular basis. For more information on FitLot classes open to the public, follow the nonprofit on Facebook.
