City officials celebrate milestone of NOLA’s planned North Terminal project

Officials plan it to open in 2019

Last week, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans city official celebrated the topping out of the planned New Orleans North Terminal. Landrieu’s administration expects the $993.7 million project to be complete by February of 2019.

“It was an honor to join the construction crew today as we marked this major construction milestone for the North Terminal project,” Landrieu said in an official statement. “Through this project, we are delivering on our commitment to ensure that the people of New Orleans rebuild New Orleans. A diverse workforce is hard at work building this new terminal, and I am proud to see the progress we are making.”

The 972,000-square-foot terminal will have 35 gates and a 2,190-square-foot parking garage. Last week, workers finish setting steel at the building’s highest point. Once finished, it will have over 34,000 pieces of structural steel pieces.

The Mayor’s Office released this time-lapse video, showing the most current progress of the North Terminal, which broke ground in early 2016. Check it out below.
