Beginning this past October, the New Orleans Public Library closed two of its libraries for renovations, and one for relocation. The Mid-City branch relocated from American Can on Orleans to 4140 Canal Street. The Main Library, located on Loyola Avenue, was closed temporarily in December for electrical maintenance.
The Nix Library was closed indefinitely for renovations.
According to the New Orleans Public Library, the Nix Library will reopen on Monday, March 6.
The library underwent extensive renovations include:
- A new floor plan design
- New paint
- Plaster repair
- 5 additional public computers, for a total of 11
- A New self-checkout machine
- New furniture and shelving
- A New water fountain
- New staff work area
- Plumbing and electrical work
- Floor replacement
- New hardscaping
- New Lighting
The library will maintain its regular service hours, which are Monday though Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
