New Orleans under tornado watch, parts of New Orleans East damaged

Chef Menteur highway is closed between Wilson Avenue and I-510

Today, Southeast Louisiana will be under tornado watch until 2 p.m. today. The Watch includes 11 parishes in South East Louisiana, and six counties in Mississippi. New Orleans, Madeveville, Metarie are among the several cities affectedly the Tornado watch.

According to WVUE Fox 8, severe weather and tornadoes have inflicted damage to several homes and businesses in New Orleans. The bulk of the damage was on Chef Menteur HWY, around the 4700 block, the New Orleans Fire Department Chief Time McConnell told Fox 8.

The NOPD urges the public to stay away from Chef Menteur Highway. The highway is closed Wilson Avenue and I-510.

By 1 p.m. today, mayor Mitch Landrieu reported there has been several injuries, but not reported fatalities, according to NOLA.com.
