New Orleans will unveil its Lemann Playground renovation this weekend

Another development complete on the Greenway

Since its unveiling in 2015, the Lafitte Greenway has undergone non-stop development. This month, the National Recreation and Park Association and the The New Orleans Recreation and Development will unveil its newest addition: a community play space at Lemann Playground.

NRPA and NORD will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and parade at Lemann Playground on Sunday, September 24, at 1:30 p.m.

Last November, The NRPA announced the Greenway as its 2017 Parks Build Community initiative. Over the last five years, NRPA has created community spaces in seven other parks across the country.

Valued at over $1 million, several companies donated exercise equipment, playground essentials, bleachers, water fountains, bike racks, soccer goals, and field lighting to the playground’s development.

New Orleans Recreation and Development will be responsible for maintaining the park after its unveiling.

“NORD is thrilled to partner with the National Recreation and Park Association to build and unveil this year’s Parks Build Community project for Lemann Playground on the Lafitte Greenway,” said Vic Richard, CEO of NORD in an official statement. “The opening of this new play space will continue to support and promote healthy lifestyles for all New Orleanians. This new investment will continue to enhance the lives of our residents.”
