While New Orleans has several walking and biking paths, this Strava Global Heatmap demonstrates the most popular places to run and cycle in New Orleans. Recording data using the mobile app Strava, developers gathered data from over 1 billion actives, totaling to over 17 billion miles across the world. Though this comes to no surprise, since Zumper ranked New Orleans as one of the best cities for runners last December.
In New Orleans, the most popular locations cycle include the Lakefront, City Park, Audubon Park, St. Charles Avenue, and along the river on both the East and West banks. The Bywater, Warehouse District, and French Quarter are among the most popular neighborhoods to cycle. Though, the increase in cycling is likely correlated with New Orleans’s growing bike lane network.
Runners tend to exercise at Audubon Park, City Park, Crescent park, Esplanade and St. Charles avenues, and along the lakefront. The French Quarter, Bywater, and Warehouse District are also popular locations for runners. In the French Quarter, this map shows the most activity along the Moonwalk and Decatur and North Peters streets.
