In celebration of New Orleans’s tricentennial the Friends of Lafitte Greenway will host its 12th annual Hike the Lafitte Greenway event on Saturday, March 10. The walking tour will span three miles, starting at Lemann Playground and ending at Second Line Brewing. Registration for Hike the Lafitte Greenway, which is free and open to the public, starts at 9:30 a.m.
Along the three mile-route, the Friends will showcase live musical performances by local youth artists and displays of historical photographs, maps, and illustrations provided by the Historic New Orleans Collection.
“The history of the Lafitte Greenway is rooted in the history of the founding of New Orleans itself,” said Sophie Harris Vorhoff, Executive Director of Friends of Lafitte Greenway in an official release. “In honor of New Orleans’ Tricentennial, the 2018 Hike will highlight the Greenway’s rich history as a transportation route—from a canal, to a railroad, to today’s active Greenway. The event will look ahead to the Greenway’s future as a park and trail for generations of New Orleanians to come.”
After the tour, the Friends will host a Base Camp Block Party from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Second Line Brewing, which is located at 433 Bernadotte Street in Mid-City. The free, family-friendly event will have live music, vendors, and educational actives.
