Earlier this month, City Business reported that Marcel Wisznia of Wisznia Architecture + Development has green lit construction for Stephens Garage conversion into a mixed-use residence at 848 Carondelet Street.

The $49 million renovation, which Wisznia estimates to be complete in 15 months, will have 51 market-rate apartment units and 11 condos. The condo units will be limited to the fifth floor, while the apartment units will be situated on the second, third, and fourth floors of the complex. The first floor will hold 21,000 square feet of commercial space.

Called The Garage, it will have 60 parking spaces reserved for residents with apartments and 20 additional parking spaces for residents with condo units. The complex will have an unconventional parking garage that will utilize two car elevators that will bring residents along with their vehicles to any of its upper floors.

Built in 1951, the building formerly stood as a Buick dealership. Wisznia bought the building for $4.9 million in 2007.
