New Orleans reopens its Moonwalk after 9-month renovation

Part of 7 developments happening along the city’s riverfront

Just in time for New Orleans’s tricentennial, officials from the City of New Orleans, French Quarter Festivals, the New Orleans Building Corporation, and French Market Corporation celebrated the rededication and reopening of the city’s Moonwalk with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The popular walking path underwent a $3.3 million renovation, which includes new shade trees and plants, an updated walking surface, new lights, and new steps connecting the riverfront to Washington Artillery Park. The French Quarter corporation approved this project last July.

This renovation was one of 7 developments happening along the city’s riverfront. By 2020, these developments will culminate in a 3.2-mile public riverfront, which will span from Spanish Plaza to Crescent Park.
