First, there were Katrina cottages. Then came tiny homes. Now, New Orleans has its first tiny jewelry shop, thanks to Porter Lyons. Last month, the homegrown jewelry brand by artist Ashley Porter opened its second location in a tiny house designed by Porter and built by Preservation Tiny House Co. The mirrored, mobile structure straddles the line between art installation and retail space.
“Jewelry is such a personal expression—it truly reflects our identity,” Porter stated in a press release. “I wanted my second store location to be an extension of my design work and to be an experience on its own.”
Porter launched her Louisiana-centric jewelry line in 2012 with a focus on alligator leather products and has expanded to include men’s and women’s jewelry. Her flagship shop is in the French Quarter at 631 Toulouse Street, and the 160-square-foot tiny house is stationed at 2230 Magazine Street in the Garden District. It is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through February 17.
