What $150,000 buys in New Orleans right now

Homes in five neighborhoods

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in New Orleans. We found five listings within $10,000 of today’s price: $150,000.

A three-bedroom, two-bathroom “Brad Pitt house” has hit the market for $150,000. This lower 9th Ward home built by the star’s Make It Right foundation has eco-friendly bells and whistles, including solar panels, as well as hardwood floors and a deck. However, you might want to get a thorough home inspection, because lawsuits levied against the nonprofit allege “moisture and water intrusion problems” due to defective, rot-prone building materials.

With its sea gulls, lighthouse, yacht clubs, and gently lapping brackish waters, Lake Pontchartrain is the closest you can get to a beach while retaining an Orleans Parish address. This Lake Marina condo has beacoup tropical vibes, thanks to its palm-shaded swimming pool and marina views. Its 837 square feet include one bedroom, one-and-a-half bathrooms, and a deck. HOA fees are $300/month, and the asking price is $145,000.

This price point goes a long way in chilly Gentilly, where it will net you a three-bedroom, one-bathroom home on a large, fenced lot. Stylish touches include granite kitchen countertops, a subway tile backsplash, and a few interesting light fixtures. There’s also a shed and a carport. The 945-square-foot bungalow is asking $157,000.

Here’s an airy, sunlit Garden District condo for $160,000. This unit has hardwood floors, granite countertops, and one bathroom. Its bedroom is divided from the living area by French doors and overlooks a backyard pool. The condo covers 531 square feet, and HOA dues are $300/month.

Renovated historic Holy Cross homes are beautiful, but they can be pricey. At $145,000, this new construction has the look of a much older house, thanks to its deep front porch, floor-to-ceiling windows, and wooden floors. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage also has an open living area and a cool side porch—both look like great places to hang out.
