But streetcar track cleaning will temporarily close one lane later today

All lanes of traffic are back open on North Rampart Street following a closure yesterday around 7 p.m. when a truck leaked 1,000 gallons of molasses onto the road.

The truck was traveling in the eastbound lane of Rampart when it started leaking on the thoroughfare’s 500 block, between Toulouse and St. Louis streets, on the edge of the French Quarter. The spill forced all eastbound lanes to close until early Tuesday morning.

Cleanup crews began working to remove the syrup late Monday. The street’s left eastbound lane will temporarily close again later today so that any remaining syrup can be cleaned from Rampart’s streetcar tracks, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
