Uptown mansion heads to auction next month

Previously listed for $2.8M, the 8,064-square-foot property will sell without reserve

A two-story mansion with columns and a balcony on a shady grass lot.
Situated on an oversized corner lot, the manse welcomes visitors with leaded glass front doors.

If you can pony up a $100,000 bidder deposit, you can throw your name in that hat to buy this Uptown mansion, which sits on State Street, a block off St. Charles Avenue. Previously listed for $2,775,000, the property will sell without reserve—generating the kind of excitement reserved for super-high Powerball jackpots (and, let’s face it, the chance of scoring this mansion for a song are almost equally slim). Bidding opens October 15 on Concierge Auctions and closes October 18. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what the lucky high bidder will receive.

The 8,064-square-foot home has five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms spread out across four floors. Designer and contractor Michael Carbine oversaw a major renovation project in 2013. The abode includes his signature mix of antique (crystal chandeliers, crown molding, leaded French doors, pocket doors, wood-burning fireplaces) and modern elements (surround sound, wet bars, an outdoor dining area).

Looking for a wood-paneled study hung with deer heads in which to savor your post-dinner cigar and cognac? This house has one. Do you need a private suite in which to house a live-in maid, chef, or nanny? It’s on the first floor (there’s a separate guest suite on the fourth floor—no need to choose). You’ll also find a walk-in closet as big as some studio apartments, not one but two wet bars, and an outdoor dining room on the terrace (for times when the formal dining room feels too stuffy).

There’s more—a lot more—and you can view it during a preview event September 26.
