This past April, seven independently-owned record stores celebrated the 10th annual Record Store Day. In the first weekend of May, independent comic book stores and libraries will celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 6.
Created in 2002, and celebrated on the first Saturday of May, Free Comic Book Day promotes comic book culture through giveaways, sales, and parties.
Throughout the New Orleans Metro area, there are six independent comic book stores—Crescent City Comics (two locations), Heroes Corner Comics (two locations), BSI Comics, and More Fun Comics. Five of these stores are participating in this year’s free comic book giveaway.
In correspondence with the national comic book celebration, all New Orleans Public library branches have traditionally participated in Free Comic Book Day. However, in this Map, Curbed NOLA only included libraries that have confirmed participation on May 2017. The map will continuously be updated with new, confirmed locations throughout the week.
So, what are you waiting for? Here are eight places to pick up a free comic book this upcoming Saturday.
