Could New Orleans contain Kimye? Probably not, both in terms of square footage and metaphysical space: New Orleans might literally sink under the weight of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's lavish real estate tastes and egos. But we think the couple should consider buying a place here, since fellow brethren in the Illuminati Beyonce and Jay Z maybe bought this former church in the Garden District. We know Kimye's busy so to save them some time, we've decided to partake in some hypothetical househunting on their behalf. Here's our humble recommendations for the most Kimye-level real estate we could find in New Orleans — including two former churches, both to follow in the Knowles-Carters' rumored lead, and to appeal to Kanye's God complex.
1. The chapel unit at the St. Elizabeth's Condos.
2. 1527 Sixth St.
While traditional, this giant Garden District Victorian can be a blank slate for Kayne — who considers himself to be the greatest living artist — to fill with $110,000 lamps, Swarovski-encrusted appliances and other garish amenities in line with his vision. But more importantly, this is in the same neighborhood as where Yonce and Co. have been rumored to have bought a home, so Kayne will be close enough to swoop in when her artistry needs defending.
3. 929 Bienville St.
Old firehouses makes great celebrity pads, and for a couple that probably considers itself just as important to the arts as fire fighters are to human lives, this $4.85 million French Quarter spot fits the bill. There's also a sleek, modern kitchen for them not to cook in and ample wall space for giant self portraits.
4. 7401 Onyx St.
New York architect Morris Adjmi designed this ultra-modern, LEED-friendly Lake Vista home fit for the Hollywood hills that includes a massive glass shower, a Kimye-sized closet, a wall of glass doors looking out on the pool, and a super girly kids bedroom with its own bathroom, perfect for North. Kayne would also probably like living on a street called Onyx.
5. 1633 Dufossat St.
For someone with a very strong relationship to the MTV VMAs, Kanye should consider buying the house from the second New Orleans season of The Real World. Again, it's pretty traditional, but keep in mind this is the house was once essentially decorated to look like a Bourbon Street gift shop; the possibilities are endless. Plus, that closet is big enough to house Kanye's entire collection for Adidas.
6. 1800 Jefferson Ave.
Designed by notable architect Albert Ledner, this modern Uptown house — with its open floor plan and high, pointy ceilings — is a former Unitarian church (we're really into the idea of Kanye living in a former church). There's also the slightly elevated dining room, perfect for impromptu performances or culty gatherings.
7. 1415 Third St.
This palatial mansion is filled with opulent baroque details and at $7.9 million, comes in as the most expensive on the list. This family of pop culture royals should finally take this place off the market.
8. Brangelina's former French Quarter home
Why not? With one power couple vacating their $6.5 million French Quarter mansion, maybe Kimye should be the ones to move in.
