Where to go on Memorial Day Weekend? Everywhere
The end of the month marks the beginning of Memorial Day Weekend. Starting Friday, May 26 and ending Monday, May 29, there will be several events going on throughout the city.
Whether you’re looking for a free festival, somewhere to get your Greek on, or looking to genuinely commemorate the holiday, there are several options to choose from.
Check out these five weekend-long events starting this Friday.

Friday kicks off with two neighborhood tours taking place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. The Cultural District will host two free panels on the cultural impact of the Treme neighborhood, starting at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. While free, attendees need to RSVP at the Cultural District’s Eventbrite. Tickets for a Baby Doll Bar Crawl—a tour of nine bars and taverns that are quintessential to the Treme and 7th Ward neighborhoods—are also available for $30.
The free concert starts on Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., at the Claiborne underpass between Basin Street and St. Bernard Avenue. This Friday through Sunday, New Orleans will hold its 44th annual Greek Festival. Centered around the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the annual festival features Greek food, dancing, and music by the Robert E. Lee Boulevard side of Bayou St. John. A one-mile and 5k race will be held Friday evening. Hellenic dancing performances and cathedral tours will be held Friday through Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, professional chefs will host a cooking demonstration near the Greek Grocery. On Sunday, attendees that wear togas get in for free.
Admission is $8 per person per day. Children under 12 are admitted for free.
This Memorial Day weekend marks the 8th annual celebration of this country music phenomenon. Marking its first year in New Orleans, the Bayou Country Superfest will take place at the Mercedes Superdome. An additional Fan Fest concert will occur across the Superdome at Champion Square on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased through the official Superfest website.
On Friday night, starting at 6 p.m., the Superfest organizers will host a kick-off event that is free and open to the public. For a list of the Fan Fest lineup, check out the Superfest’s official website.
While not particularly about Memorial Day, City Putt will host an anniversary celebration on May 27 to 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Celebrating four years, admission for the event buys a guest one round of golf and a complimentary cocktail or soft drink. A raffle giveaway will take place each day of the celebration.
City Putt will maintain its regular hours during the Memorial Day Weekend (closed on Monday).
Celebrations start at The National WWII Museum at New Orleans this Saturday with a 70-piece musical performance by the Pensacola Civic Band starting at 1 p.m at the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center.
On Sunday, The Marine Corps Band New Orleans will also perform a tribute at the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center at 1 p.m.
On Memorial Day, the Museum will hold a Commemoration Ceremony at 11 a.m., and a National Moment of Silence at 3 p.m. Both events will be held at the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center.
All of Memorial Day weekend events are free and open to the public. Regular admission to the museum is still required to view exhibits.
