On Saturday, April 22, New Orleans will be one of many cities around the world celebrating the independent culture of record stores. Deemed Record Store Day, April 22 will mark the 10th annual celebration.

Started on April 19, 2008, the Record Store Day was created to celebrate the culture behind independent brick-and-motar music stores. On this day, independent record stores hold deals, DJ sessions, live music, special releases and other festivities recognizing independent music stores.

From Uptown to the Bywater, here is a list of eight record stores celebrating the 10th annual Record Store Day in New Orleans.

The White Roach

The independently-owned Uptown music store kicking off the 10th annual Record Store Day by stocking modern and classic hits on Vinyl.

The White Roach will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Mushroom

Founded in 1969, The Mushroom record store specializes in alternative, hardcore, and metal rock; punk, hip-hop, and some local jazz selections. In joint celebration of 4/20 and and Record Store Day, Mushroom will cater free pizza and drinks, along with sales up to 42 percent off merchandise—and $4.20 off new LPs and CDs.

The record store will be open at 10 a.m. and will remain open until 12 a.m. the next morning.

Sisters in Christ

Located right on Freret Street, Sisters in Christ offer a vast selection of contemporary punk, indie rock, metal and electro pop.

While undisclosed, the store plans to host several Record Store Day events throughout April 22.

Sisters in Christ is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Peaches Records

Previously located in the French Quarter, Peaches Records marked their new, 14,000-square-foot home on Magazine Street. Founded in 1975, Peaches Records is a full-service record store.

On April 22, Peaches Records will open at 9 a.m., and close at 7 p.m.

NOLA Mix Records

Located in the Lower Garden District, this record store sells new and used vinyl, specializing in soul, rock, jazz, Latin, gospel and local music. As an added plus, the shop offers DJ lessons.

For Record Store Day, NOLA Mix Records will host a variety of DJ performances, and free drinks. The store will also stock several Record Store Day released on vinyl.

Festivities start at 11 a.m. and end at 6 p.m.

Louisiana Music Factory

Located in the Marigny, this independently-owned record store specializes in New Orleans and Louisiana artists.

Louisiana Music Factory will celebrate Record Store Day with live music starting at 1 p.m.

The record store is open between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Euclid Records

Servicing the Bywater and Lower 9th Ward, this record store has a large selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, and an occasional supply of cassettes.

On Record Store Day, Euclid Records will host live music between 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and an anticipated a raffle.

The record Store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
