The Best Indoor and Cool-ish Places to Play Pokemon Go in New Orleans

View as Map

A testament to the popularity of Pokemon Go is that it's drawing people outdoors, even in New Orleans' famously oppressive summer heat. Teens and teens at heart are flocking to City Park, Audubon Park, Lafreniere Park in Metairie, and Lafayette Square Park to play. But the heat's only going to get worse when August comes, so if the popularity of this app continues you might be looking for ways to catch 'em all without dying of heat stroke—or breaking your ankle in a pothole, or getting stuck in one of New Orleans' summertime downpours. So we decided to compile a list of places where you can enjoy Pokemon Go while also enjoying air conditioning and none of the hazards of outdoors. Also included for good measure: places that aren't indoors, but are slightly cool due to nearby water (bonus: water Pokemon!).

Are there any other indoor places where you like to play Pokemon Go? Please let us know in the comments, or by dropping us a line.

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

All of the Audubon Nature Institute stops are killing it in the Pokemon Go game right now: Audubon Zoo boasts more than 30 Pokestops, one gym, and plentiful Pokemon alongside actual animals. They're even hosting an after-hours, 18+ Pokemon Go event Aug. 3. But it's hot, and Audubon's indoor spots are luckily just as Poke-friendly. The super-cold Aquarium has three Pokestops and lots of Pokemon running around.
